International coking coal prices expected to rise sharply in 2011

Reportedly, due to strong demand from China, analyst indicated that the average contract prices of international coking coal may stand at US$240/ton FOB in 2011; furthermore, it would have a large increase in the second half of 2011.

Besides, the appreciation of Australian dollar may boost the prices of coking coal to rise further as Australia’s deal volume of coking coal takes 64% of the total in global.

Moreover, the analyst pointed out that China and India will compete in acquiring the energy resources.

It’s known that BHP Billiton has gotten agreement with Japan’s steel mills that the new contract prices of hard coking coke is at US$225/ton FOB in next Q1, up by 8% compared to US$209/ton FOB in this Q4.
